Are you busy? Busy with life, kids, activities, feeling like you live in your car some days? Well if this is you then keep reading, you may find some inspiration and a sigh of relief learning more about My On-The-Go “Dinner” Bag. I am totally inspired by helping other busy moms enjoy life a little bit more by relieving the stresses of everyday tasks. As moms, we are literally pulled in a million different directions being a million different things to a million different people. Okay, a million may be stretching the truth, but some days a certainly feels like it doesn’t it?
Before I share a tip or solution to a problem that I feel has given me that glimpse of hope on a long day, or that relief of stress where I can take a deep breath and feel like it is all under control (okay I am making myself sound like I always feel under control……….NOT!), I always test it out a few times to make sure it actually is doable, not only for me as a mom, but for my kids (and husband) too.
Since my girls have activities 2 times a week about 30 minutes away from where we live, I have put on the breaks and really been intentional about what we eat for dinner on those busy nights away from home. Yes, I could take the easy way out and just opt for the drive-thru, but let’s be real that is an extra cost every week when we have perfectly stocked deep freezes (2 large ones to be exact plus the one attached to the fridge in which are all plum full).
So, this is what I do:
- I dedicate a few minutes a week, typically Saturday or Sunday evening to Meal Plan. Now before you exit out of this post, STOP! The word Meal Plan does not have to be scary. First, you need to change your mindset and get that out of your head. All I mean when I say meal plan is to take a look at your week ahead, give yourself grace where it is needed, take a look at your pantry and freezers and decide what you are going to throw into the crock or oven a few nights this week.
- After I know what I am going to make on a particular day (if are forgetful like me put a reminder in your phone the morning of so you remember to turn on the crock pot or oven timer before you leave for work), I set the timer so I can arrive home to dinner 100% done
- Once I arrive home from work I throw dinner into individual serving bowls with lids.
- I then place in my On-the-Go “Dinner” bag that is all set with napkins, snacks, bottled water, and utensils.
This seriously has been a life saver for my kids and I and they love it! For them, it is like dinner and a movie in the car. It really is a win-win all the way around. I hope you find it helpful too.
